Directors, executive and senior managers play an essential role in governance, risk management and strategic oversight. Some areas enshrine these responsibilities in legislation and executives and managers can be held liable for failing in their obligations. It is essential to demonstrate that there are systems and processes in place to stay updated and informed about governance obligations while juggling the needs of stakeholders and navigating other challenges.
ESG is one of the most important problems facing Australian companies across all industries today. ESG goes beyond environmental issues and encompasses all non-financial topics that are not typically captured by traditional reporting. ESG consulting offers specific value when navigating the shift of expectations on businesses from being more focused on corporate social responsibility (CSR) to predominantly ESG-focused. We can help organisations to quantifiably measure their impact on society and the environment, using metrics that deliver long-term strategic advantage and value.
WHS or OHS is an essential governance function that plays an important role in the reputation of the organisation, as well as providing a safe work environment. WHS is highly regulated with personal legal liabilities for company officers, employers and employees. Officers of the company and business leaders need to demonstrate their commitment with policies and systems that ensure the most reasonably practicable risk-based approach to managing the services they provide.
EBCPM processes and procedures should aim to prevent interruptions to mission critical services, and, if interruptions do occur re-establish full function as quickly and smoothly as possible. The global COVID-19 pandemic, a number of recent natural disasters and an increase in business insolvencies has sharpened the focus on demonstrable EBCPM with investors, lenders, customers and service providers.
Security and Asset Protection, as it relates to operational risk, is the protection of people and physical assets – cash, property, vehicles, plant, and equipment - from harm or damage from external events - whether intentional (criminal), natural (fire, storm or other disaster), or inadvertent (accident). There should be a preventative management plan and strategy to demonstrate that people, assets and information are appropriately protected, and if any loss does occur, it will not significantly impact a company's ability to deliver services.
Most public events require a Permit of Public Entertainment (POPE), usually administered by the Local Government Authority (LGA) with strict requirements. Organisers may need to provide Public Safety Officers for pre, during and post event inspections, along with First Aid Officers or qualified medical personnel such as Paramedics, Doctors, or Nurses. Parking Officers, Fire Services, and Lifeguards for safety in and around water are also often required. Organisers need to ensure they are compliant with conditions included in the permit to operate.
